The story of OBEY begins with its founder, Shepard Fairey. Fairey created OBEY as an extension of his prolific graffiti work, featuring politically-charged designs inspired by his time in the skateboarding scene, DIY culture, social issues and the cult of celebrity. OBEY began in 2001, using an image of the wrestler Andre The Giant as his mascot and has since produced collections including tees, hoodies, sweatshirts, jackets, pants and accessories featuring Fairey's artwork.
